World leaders partake a six-course lunch followed by an eight-course dinner with five wines and champagne at the G8 summit where the global food crisis tops the agenda.

According to Robert Winnet of the Telegraph, the leaders were served 24 different dishes during the first day at the G-8 summit - just hours after the British Prime Minister Brown urged the world to reduce the "unnecessary demand" for food and called on British families to cut back on their wasteful use of food.

Mr Brown and his wife Sarah were among 15 guests at the "blessings of the earth and the sea social dinner".

The sumptuous dinner consisted of 18 dishes in eight courses including caviar, smoked salmon, Kyoto beef and a "G8 fantasy dessert". Bon Appetit!

What exactly does the G8 being well catered have anything to do with the business of reducing hunger? Should conferences on why people are obese order from McDonalds?

The world presently produces more food than EVER before, this year in particular turning in bumper crop yields. According to the WTO biofuels account for 75% of the increase in food prices. Subsidies, trade barriers accounting for a large chunk as well.

The G8 may be the best available forum to finally open up world trade barriers and END world hunger.

Thanks, for your comments. We have all partaken of feasts in our time, and hopefully with good health we may do so in future. There is no need for G-8 leaders to eat Big Macs.

The reason many newspapers wrote against G-8 making a public display of haute cuisine at Sapporo is the timing. The food crisis is a real one for billions of underprivileged people in the world who for many reasons do not have enough nourishment. One of the reasons food production in developing countries is low is on account of agricultural subsidies given to western farmers.

If you read Chogolisa's article, you will find that on an average, each household in Britain wastes $900 of food per annum.
I am sure the Japanese hosts meant well and I prefer Japanese food to MacDonalds, but this was a public relations setback.
