The Wittels Streak Is Over

Florida International University infielder Garrett Wittels 56 game hitting streak ended tonight in 10-2 FIU loss to Southeastern Louisiana in their first game of the college baseball season. Wittels was only two games away from breaking the all-time mark of 58 set by Robin Ventura in 1987. Nevertheless, hitting 56 in a row is still a great accomplishment because that matches the same hitting streak the great Joe DiMaggio had in the 1940's.

He was so close, yet he ended up being so far away from obtaining a hit tonight as he went 0-4. It looked like something was on his mind. Oh yeah, something like a pending rape charge in the Bahamas. I think that the NCAA is relieved that this record will not be held by an indicted rapist. Go SE Louisiana!
