US military veterans have filed a lawsuit against accusing the Pentagon of ignoring reports of sexual assault and rape within the forces.
The federal government has been named in the lawsuit, along with US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his predecessor Donald Rumsfeld.
Both men will be asked about sexual assault cases, which the plaintiffs have alleged were ignored by military commanders.
A class-action suit was filed in the US federal court on Tuesday by lawyers for complainants, including a female US army sergeant who was raped by fellow service members in Korea.
Other women and men, who have come forward with stories of sexual assault in the military, are also named in the action.
The suit also calls for an independent third party to handle sexual assault complaints in the military.
According to the lawsuit, tens of thousands of US service members have reported different forms of sexual assault during the past decade.
