There is no doubt about the fact that St. Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular holidays in the United States of America and is celebrated with much aplomb. The St. Valentine’s Day celebrations date back to as old as 1382 - back then, St. Valentines was probably celebrated on the 2nd of May rather than the 14th of February, as we do in these times. The Greeting Card Association has announced the sale of about 1 billion cards in the honor of St. Valentine’s Day.
St. Valentine is the name of 14 different martyrs and it is unknown which one of those was the man after whom the celebration of love has taken off but only the burial place and the date is known. St. Valentine’s Day is celebrated for the martyr who died on the 14th of February and was buried at the Via Flaminia, north of Rome. To this day, St. Valentine's is a holiday which marks the expression of love and carries a significance in the lives of people who exchange presents and treat their loved ones to special gifts and surprises.
