A father of Papua New Guinea was caught and handed over to the police because he was found eating his own newborn son. The shrill screams of the child brought neighbors to the scene who then chased the man to the police station. The child could not be saved.
The terrible incident happened on the outskirts of the town of Tabubil in Western Province. The man was not a cannibal but was a drug addict and wanted to eat his son to gain supernatural powers – it was, apparently, a case of sorcery. In 2009, at least 50 persons were killed reportedly by those who practice sorcery.
Cases of voodoo, sorcery, witchcraft and tantricism are reported from various corners of the world and these are results of superstition and ignorance of a section of people and which weaknesses are exploited by others – for self gratification.
