Today, I decided to try a new approach to reporting contributions and was going to submit 100 reports on various topics with local photos that I have accumulated and story lines from events in the Philippines and around the world.
After two reports, I wonder if this is possible for today. Why?
The first report was not getting through to the system but I was able to save it as a draft (this option returned to me last month) and then after a few more attempts, I was able to publish it.
To my surprise, it appeared twice on my profile and then I was able to watch as the page views actually diminished.
The second report was also hard to publish within the Allvoices System but I was finally able to get it loaded and here it is:
Once again, I feel that the initial page views were lost from this contribution.
My point in mentioning this here as a Contributed "Your Story" News report is simply to highlight some of the obstacles that are affecting my ability to contribute news today. While I understand that technology often has a "life" of its own, isn't the ability to publish a contribution a basic requirement to being successful here in the Allvoices community - however we define success?
Seamless reporting of news is a fundamental requirement for success and for today, so far, I feel that the system is not fulfilling this basic level of service.
What if I had the photo of a dead man's brain to attach to a major news story today? Would it get reported? Does it need to be propagated today?
Thanks for reading this contribution!
Attitude is perhaps our most priceless possession and I hope to be able to remain positive going forward.
To Your Success!
Note: It is possible that some of the technical difficulties that I have experienced today are at my end or in the connective links to the Allvoices technological platform, but since I have been reporting since 2010, perhaps there could be a automated reply when a contributor is having difficulties?
For example, the system could identify each of the nearly half a million contributors by a unique identifier and generate a ticket when there is a problem. If there is a system-wide update or other ongoing situation, then a blasted message could go out to all contributors to make them aware of such anomalies so we can adjust our time-table to report news and make contributions.
