Rescue workers inspect the site of the collision between two passenger trains near Cairo

At least 10 people died and 33 are injured when a regional passenger train and a freight train clashed in the eastern part of Germany on Saturday 22:30 local time.

The reason why the two trains crashed near the city of Magdeburg in the Saxony-Anhalt state was not immediately clear.

The 100-capacity HarzElbeExpress train was carrying 45 passengers at the time of the crash, according to a source from Veolia running the service.
