AlShabab Islamists who control most of Southern and Central Somalia told car drivers in the Southern port city of Kismayo to desist from using tinted car windows. Sheikh Hassan Yaqub Ali, the administrator of the city signed city ordinance barring drivers from using tinted car windows, warning from today, January 29 2011, that the drivers stop using such car windows.
“We have given drivers a week to comply with the new city ordinance and today is the last day to adopt the new rules as to kind of cars windows appropriate,” said Mr. Ali.
AlShabab reiterated that anyone caught violating the new rule will be punished. Most of the international community sees AlShabab as a terrorist organization and a proxy of AlQaeda. AlShabab is currently in war with the UN-recognized Somalia Transitional Government, which controls a few blocks in the capital, Mogadishu, with the help of the 8,000 African peacekeepers known as AMISOM.
Somalia has been in a black hole of civil war and anarchy since the last stable government was overthrown in 1991.
