10 dead after a scaffolding collapses in Makati

Makati, Philippines - (Update) 10 construction workers died while one was wounded after a scaffolding collapses from a 40-storey building construction in Paseo De Roxas corner Gallardo Street, Makati City at 11:45 am.

This was confirmed by Junjun Binay, Mayor of Makati, who immediately rushed in to the presently constructed Eton Tower, owned by businessman Lucio Tan. The workers were under CE Construction.

According to Makati City Police Office head C/Supt. Froilan Bonifacio, the accident occurred in an under construction building, which is a residential condominium in the said city while conducting an installation of glass panels.

The scaffolding collapsed which also serve as makeshift elevator or electric gondola from the 32nd floor going to the seventh floor of the said building.

Currently, the authorities have an ongoing investigation of the said incident, in which they had an initial suspicion of a broken cable or a mechanical defect on the motor.

Some of the victims were rushed in to the hospital.

Six of those who were rushed in Makati hospital were already dead while four others were wounded, who were also rushed in to the said hospital.

Among those victims who were brought to Makati hospital are Rowel Perez, 23, Sapang Palay, Joel Alecilla, Celso Mabuting, Michael Tatlonghari of Antipolo, Vincent Biñon Jr., Romel Perez, Kevin Mabunga, Jay-R Logada and Jeffry Diocado.

Mayor Binay have announced, the victims were in a hurry to go down thru the scaffolding because its breaktime and they will be having their lunch.
