Police in Columbia busted a carrier pigeon loaded with marijuana and cocaine paste strapped to its back. The pigeon had been challenging to smuggle 1.6 ounces of marijuana into a prison in north-east Colombia.
The pigeon was trying to fly into a prison in Bucaramanga, in the country's north-east, with 1.6 ounces of the weed attached to its body. The bird landed due to the heavy weight of those drugs. The bird, which is now being cared for by authorities, was found struggling to fly with 40 grams of marijuana and 5 grams of cocaine paste strapped to its wings, the BBC reports. Police said that this is really a new case of criminal ingenuity. But the local authorities state that this isn’t the first time the pigeons are used for drug smuggling. Local police say previous pigeons had been used to smuggle Sim cards for cell phones into the same jail.
Colombian drug gangs have used nifty techniques for the drug smuggling in various parts of the country.
