Olbermann broke the news to his audience during his show’s final cancellation (full video below). MSNBC said in a statement following today’s episode with the news. According to The New York Times, the hosts came to an agreement with management late NBC asked this week to resign. “Countdown” aired for almost 8 years.

The bizarre timing of the announcement, a number of speculations of Olbermann’s suspension in November last year with the departure of NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker grew up in the light of the recent acquisition of the network of Comcast.

NBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines said the Comcast merger had nothing to do with the decision. Comcast has issued a statement early Saturday morning echo those sentiments. “Comcast has closed the transaction for NBC Universal and has no operational control of any of its properties, including MSNBC,” the statement said. “We are committed from the day the deal is announced that we are not with NBC Universal news was an obstacle.
