Authorities in Central Africa have arrested five people who were found with the heads of 12 chimpanzees

Five people were arrested in a raid that confiscated heads and hands of a gorilla is threatened with extinction, and 12 heads and 30 hands of chimpanzees. The organization called for a firm response from the Justice of the country to help curb trafficking. the African wildlife are often hunted for the illegal market demand for meat and fur or its use as good luck charms on juju (black magic) and in traditional medicine.

Experts say that in rural areas of Central Africa, the bushmeat is the source of up to 80% of the protein in the diet. The tropical forests of Gabon are abundant in species such as gorillas and elephants. One tenth of the country consists of national parks for conservation.

The seizure is one of the largest ever made in Central Africa. The items found on the beat also included 12 leopard skins, part of the skin of a lion, snake skins and five elephant tails. "The collection of protected species that were seized in this operation is very disturbing," said WWF's representative in Africa David Greer. "To my knowledge, there was a seizure of parts of the body of this magnitude in Central Africa over the past 10 years."According to WWF, the suspects must appear in court this week.
