Wednesday sees the White House host a state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao. But just who has made the influential guest list to dine with arguably the world's most powerful politician?
The White House is not being very forthcoming on the guest list but a few names are emerging. This dinner, a black-tie party, is one of the most important state dinners that Obama has yet hosted. Political and economic ties with China are imperitive for long term US growth and world political stability.
Guests to get the partyu swinging are thought to include Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Rep. Judy Chu, the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress. These were sure bet guests due to their political clout plus Chinese connections.
Celebrity guests will include Yo-Yo Ma - a recipient of the White House Medal of Freedom. Yo-Yo also attended the the last state dinner held to honour the Chinese in 1997. Ma attended the last state dinner honoring China in 1997. Speculation exists around wheter Jason Wu, who made the first lady's inaugural gown, will be asked to attend, as he was born in Taiwan - and China does not have good relations with Taiwan.
