Nawalapitiya, Srilanka(then British Ceylon)
Today January 17, 2011 is the 94th birthday of the legendary tamilnadu politician MGR.
His name at birth was Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran and he is popularly known by his initials MGR.
MGR's deep and strong connection with LTTE leader Prabakaran was a turning point in the history of Srilanka and LTTE.
“...Nobody could surmise what their relationship was like. ‘It was some chemistry’, said Panrutti S.Ramachandran, MGR’s hatchet man on Sri Lanka.
And the relationship lasted almost until MGR’s death in December 1987, even after the IPKF offensive on the LTTE.
According to Anton Balasingham, the LTTE ideologue, Prabhakaran even gifted an AK-47 to MGR as a token of his love and respect he had on the leader.
Balasingham also claimed that former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, the late M G Ramachandran, assiduously promoted the interests of his organisation(LTTE) and even gave it as much as Rs 6 crore from out of his personal funds as a hard cash at that.
His death on December 24, 1987 due to prolonged illness was a blow to both LTTE and eelam tamils and turned the tide of the war in favour of Indian Peace Keeping Force(IPKF).
Eelam tamils are grateful to this great leader for his unconditional support in their fighting for a just cause called Tamil Eelam..
We salute you sir ! Your loss was irreplaceable as far as Tamil community is concern !!
