The crowded market has proved a mecca for pickpocket and purse thieves. In an attempt to combat this crime Loughborough residents are to get access to subsidised cost purse alarms.
As part of the scheme residents will also be able to get window alarms to help prevent burglary crime. The scheme is being run by Leicestershire North Neighbourhood Watch using funding from Leicestershire Police.
Alarms will be sold at a much reduced price from their price in shops and any victim of crime will get the alarms completely free. The money from the police will also pay for purse chains and publicity materials such as stickers and pens.
