Associated Press reports from Arlington Texas. 2010 American League Most Valuable Player (ALMVP) outifelder Josh Hamilton has been hospitalized with pnemonia.

The Texas Rangers baseball team officials disclosed his condition Tuesday and said Hamilton was diagnosed with an early case Monday. The Rangers expect Hamilton to be released from the hospital Wednesday,

The Rangers said Hamilton should be able to resume his workouts in a few days.

Hamilton is overcoming an addiction to cocaine and alcohol had a batting average of .359, 32 home runs and 100 runs batted in.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington says he wants Hamilton to play left field next season to save him from wear and tear on his body.

Hamilton missed most of September due to two broken ribs he suffered when he crashed into an outfield wall. He played center field throughout the playoffs and World Series.
