Tiny Zircon Crystals found in the Jack Hills of Western Australia may push back the accepted date of appearance of life on the planet over 500 million years, out dating the current known source of life that was found in West Greenland.
Radioactive carbon dating suggests that the rare gems were formed over 4.4 billion years ago, in the Hadean phase of the Earth that was earlier thought to have inhospitable conditions for life.
