Oprah Winfrey

The Oprah Winfrey Network, or OWN for short has officialy been launched with a one-hour preview special hosted by Winfrey, host of the syndicated "The Oprah Winfrey Show."Millions of Oprah fans have a new channel to catch her.

But as you watch the new channel, these five things should be kept in mind:

1.Reruns of "Oprah"

The new network would show the reruns of the precious 25 years of 'Oprah' which won't start until September. These reruns would be so much edited from the originals and repackaged as theme shows that you would hardly recognise them once it's on the air. These reruns -which will be given a new name- are most expected to air in daytime

2.Oprah wouldn't host 'OWN' channel

Winfrey Oprah won't be hosting her new channel until late this year although she would appear in a "behind-the-scenes" show documenting the final season of her famous daytime show."Oprah's Next Chapter"-her prime time show showing her travelling around the world with her fabulous friends would not start until September at the earliest.

3.First three months centred about creating the network

The first three months would be about creating the network'OWN' itself for which there is a special TV show known as "Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search For The Next TV Star" in which finalists will compete to host a show on OWN. This program is currently produced by by "Survivor" creator Mark Burnett and would be premiered next friday where 10 finalists will compet.Winfrey will appear on the show occasionally.

4.Wait till Monday

You'll have to wait until Monday to see much of OWN's new shows. Before that "sneak peeks" and specially crafted Oprah introductions would be shown on the channel.Twelve OWN shows -- including sneak previews of "Kidnapped By the Kids" and "Searching For" -- will premiere throughout this month.

5.Summer 2011-turning point for Oprah

Her final original "Oprah" episode would be recorded in May.After that the show will air repeats till finally compiling in September. She would become a cable TV personality after the last week of May.During the summer months, she will either throw herself into making new shows for her to star in beginning later this year -- or she will take off, delaying the moment she starts appearing regularly on her own channel.

It will be interesting to see how her new network performs. She has an extremely strong fan base that will probably carry over to watch her show, but at the same time, it's a cable network that hasn't been established. Who knows how the other shows will perform? I think she'll make it work though. Let's see what happens.

Very informative piece. The jury is still out on the new network. Wonder why she wanted to venture out on her own?
