We attended the last Misa de gallo today in preparation for the Christmas celebration. As expected, the church is full packed with patrons that most participants brought their own chairs along to have a seat while attending the mass outside the church. It's good thing the congregation managed to provide projectors for the overflowing attendees which occupied the church parking lot, up to the next street corner, and half of the Imus city hall plaza. It's like being in an open field concert! :)
Misa de gallo or as we all know “simbang gabi” has been a tradition handed down from generation to generation. It is a nine-day pre-Christmas Eucharistic celebration usually done at four o'clock in the morning to usher the coming of our savior. It is believed that this dawn mass celebration was designed by missionary friars to fit to the work schedule of the Filipino farmers which constituted most of the population in the olden days. They have decided that they can implant, preserve and propagate the substance of Catholicism by integrating the worship to the Filipino customs. These days many parishes celebrates simbang gabi at around 8 or 9 in the evening as an additional schedule to the dawn masses to accommodate the needs of people on various work schedules.
As a child we will only attend such church wohoos coz our elderlies do. Plus they'll treat us with pandesal and hot cocoa at the end of the assembly. Which is quite a treat for a clueless kid like ........:P. But in the long run, the nostalgic feel of the morning bell makes us re-live a childhood memory. And the fact that Jeboss has really penetrated our lives .:)) Plus we want to tell Jeboss our wish! :P A kind of approved or denied process. (?) But we usually go to church to worship and talk to Jeboss with all our heart. There after, we wait for His reply. The consolation is that, you'll feel lighter after your conversation with Him. (Which of course, all the talking will be done by u :P) But it works! try it! :P
The origin of the legend that, once you've completed the nine mornings of misa de gallo, your wish will come true is not clear. But the testimonies of the faithfuls who had received the gift of Christmas is increasing each year. And the nearest documentation of the faith was portrayed in a movie nine mornings played by Piolo Pascual and Ms. Donita Rose which made them couple at the end of the movie. :P . So here we are, one of the millions who cleared the 2010's majestic nine mornings! (Yees! :)) It might be naïve to say, but Yep! We believe! Hohoho!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Q: What is the supreme power that governs us all?
A: The all mighty dollar! :P
( This is the mantra of modern society, hope we learn to govern $$$ and not the other way around...:P *wink) :))
