The Philippine bank notes are finally changing after several years. Last Thursday, December 16, 2010, the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Philippine Central Bank) finally unveiled the new designs of the bank notes.
According to Amando Tetangco, the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor, the new bills will make it more “difficult for counterfeiters to copy while easier for people to determine counterfeits.” The said bills will be in circulation this December. But the old bills will still be accepted within the next three years.
The said bank notes will still feature the great Filipino heroes. Heroes like former presidents Manuel Quezon, Sergio Osmeña, Manuel Roxas, and Diosdado Macapagal, former senator Ninoy Aquino, and war heroes Josefa Llanes Escoda, Vicente Lim, and Jose Abad Santos. But Ninoy Aquino will no longer be alone on the bill; he is joined by his wife. And Ninoy is smiling on the bill and no longer the worried Ninoy we see on the old 500 bill.
The 500 peso bill is historical, not only because two great Filipinos are in it, but it is the first in history that the bill has two parents and their son has his signature on them. President Noynoy Aquino said, “It is a testament to what they sacrificed for our people, and a testament to their love for our country.” He said it makes him proud to be their son and a Filipino. Check out the bills and their great designs.
