Malaysia and New Zealand today signed a letter of approval for the use of Malaysia Halal Meat and Meat Products Requirements for farms in that country for export of halal meat products into the country in force next year.
Veterinary Services Department director-general Datuk Dr. Abd. Aziz Jamaluddin said the agreement, exports of meat and dairy products from New Zealand will rise at once to accommodate the needs of people in this country.
"Through this agreement New Zealand authorities to increase their involvement in ensuring that products are allowed to be exported to Malaysia are halal.
"Most slaughterhouses in New Zealand did not meet Malaysia's halal standards, many of the export of meat used to come here but had to stop because not conform to the standard MS 1500:2009 is set, "he told reporters after the signing of a letter of agreement here.
New Zealand diet is represented by the Director General of Security, Wayne McNee. Present at the New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia David Kersey.
Abd. Aziz said the reform was deemed to be a unique achievement in ensuring the country's top exporter of halal standards prescribed protocol.
''We will be expanded this rule to Europe, South America and the United States to comply with halal standards in food safety and we have set out in the draft agreement, "he said.
Simultaneously, he said, two officers from the Veterinary Services Department and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is placed in the office of the Embassy of Malaysia in New Zealand to monitor the operation of slaughterhouses in the country.
