A 27 years old man was arrested in Holland on suspicion of abusing 50 children in daycare centers in Amsterdam and the distribution of child pornography,
The man, arrested on December 7, worked as a substitute employee in nurseries in the Dutch capital since February 2007, also advertised on the Internet to work caring for children.
In a press conference held at night, the head of the Amsterdam police Bernard Welten said the man was suspected of abusing children from 30 to 50, but said investigations were still underway.
Referring to the case as "broad and complex," the chief prosecutor in Amsterdam, Herman Bolhao said the man is suspected of abusing children as young as 4 years old and published a photo of the suspect to alert parents of possible victims.
"At the moment we do not know exactly how many children were victims of this man of 27 years," said Bolhão.
The investigation began after child pornography allegedly originated in the Netherlands found in the United States. The man was arrested after the identification of a victim of sexual abuse in a criminal program on Dutch television.
The partner of the suspect, a 37 year old man was also arrested on suspicion of storing child pornography. He is not being accused of sexual abuse and coming before the court on Monday.
Dozens of parents were informed about the case in two meetings in a hotel in Amsterdam, on Sunday night.
The case came to light months after the swimming teacher Benno Larue, 60, was sentenced in July to seven years in prison for sexually abusing 40 girls over several years. Most of the girls was very young and had learning difficulties.
