Windows XP is Dead

Windows XP loyalists mourned Microsoft's decision to discontinue selling it as a standard operating system.

This means that most PC and laptop users will be forced into adopting XP's successor Vista. Vista has its share of detractors given the heavier load it bestows upon processors tending to make performance more sluggish. Microsoft feels Vista is the superior system in terms of security and performance.

XP will still be available for direct purchase by smaller retailers and for lower-end computing systems. The rest of us have the option of purchasing Vista and downgrading to XP through official channels.

The next incarnation in the line of Windows software is Windows 7, with an expected release in 2009.
