I saw the funniest advertisement on one of the major network shows on Wednesday, 12.8.10. Someone was promoting holiday cooking lessons that would be demonstrated during the Christmas season for home cooks. "Twelve meals, sponsored by Prevacid!" Prevacid is an antacid treatment for hurting stomachs. Smile.
On the learning side, it is a lot of fun to watch these shows with their chefs cooking something new each day for us. You see the most ingenious tips about handling, cutting and cooking food or they explain which newer utensils and food prep bowls make preparation faster and easier in the kitchen. I watched Rachel Ray's show yesterday and noticed we are supposed to have three oblong shallow bowls lined up before dipping chicken cutlet into three substances. First, you flip it back and forth in the flour, next comes the egg wash (two eggs and milk, I think) and then you really turn it two to four times back and forth in the final crumbs.
Another neat idea, that I think came from Rachel, was what to do with holiday leftover crackers you have not served. She explained how one could take all such crisp breads and crackers and pop them into the food processor, then the myriad of seasonings works great as a coating for your meat in the fry pan. It was such an excellent use of partial packages of foods.
Rachel Ray did something new today; she had a Skype viewer cooking along with her. The lady did everything Rachel asked and they could see one another on a screen. Rachel even taught her "how to plate it" which is a term for presentation of the food on the dinner plate. It was amusing when the lady started to transfer one food; Rachel quickly slowed her down, saying, "Take it easy, not too much!"
