Maoist top leader Kanchan arrested in Kolkata

Top Maoist leader arrested in Kolkata

Kolkata: Maoist top leader Kanchan alias Sudip Chongdar was arrested by the police here on Saturday. This is another major blow to the outlawed extremist outfit that has been suffering loss after loss in the recent times. Kanchan occupies a place next to the all important Kishenji in the Maoist hierarchy. He is termed as the main mastermind for the Lal Garh movement in West Bengal in 2008.

Also arrested with Kanchan were state committee members Anil Ghosh, Varun Sur and another worker Bimal Maliik.

Special Task Force chief Rajiv Kumar has confirmed the arrest of Kanchan and others to the media.
