Darjeeling is a famous tourist spot in West Bengal and it is fast losing popularity. The song 'mere sapno ki rani, kab ayagi tu' of the blockbuster movie 'Aradhana' starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore was filmed against the backdrp of the toy train of Darjeeling.

There is hardly any Bengali who has not been to that hill station and wandered along the Mall or gone for the early morning ritual of waching the Sun rise over the Tiger Hill or traveled in the toy train that has earned a Heritage status.

Unfortunately, two landmarks are in shambles - one is the Rock Garden, the other is the Gangamaya Park. Both were ravaged by the Cyclone Aila cyclone in 2009. Moreover, continuous agitations over the formation of Gorkhaland has affected the movement of tourists. And - tourism is the main revenue earner for the hill people.

In order to regain prosperity there is a strong need to welcome the tourists back into its folds, the people of Darjeeling need to modify their thinking.
