Mining magnate Clive Palmer in Perth, West Australia

Clive Palmer acquired a failing Australian nickel refinery, turned it around—by paying its 800 employees more—and now he's spent $10 million on holiday bonuses for his workers. Fifty-five of the top performers will each get a Mercedes Benz, and 700 workers will get vacations for two at five-star resorts in Fiji. Even the remaining 50 workers, presumably the lowest-performing, will each get a weekend getaway. “The employees in Queensland Nickel have worked tirelessly ... to make this business a success and now I want to reward them,” he says.

Must be a great time for Queensland Nickel employees! There are more than 15 million Americans who would love to be even one of the lowest performing workers - thankful just to have a job... and a weekend getaway too? Oh well, times will get better here stateside. Luckily, I haven't been overly affected by the recession, and by saying that I think that at this point in time everyone here has been affected in one way or another.

Congratulations to Queensland Nickel and to Clive Palmer for being a generous boss!
