Comingsoon.net is reporting that pre-prodution for the third installment of the newly revived 'Batman' franchise has begun. Several cast members, including, and have been revealed, but no plot summary is available yet.
Gary Oldman and Christian Bale will be reprising their roles as Commisioner Gordon and Bruce Wayne, respectively.and will be returning as well. Director is being very tight lipped regarding plot details but has confirmed that the Joker will not return in this installment.
This has left many fans speculating as to who the Dark Avenger will square off against this time...Mr.Freeze, the Penguin Two-Face and Ra' s Al-Ghul have all been nixed as possibilities. The writers have been quoted as saying that they'd like to use a less commonly known villian in this installment.
For my buck, I'd like to see Bane go head to head with the Batman on the big screen. Yeah, I know i'm showing quite a bit of juvenile geekiness, but...
Many, many, moons ago, Bane literally broke Batman over his knee, resulting in one of the darker era's in the comic hero's mythos, the aptly titled "Knightfall" story arc.
Batman is then forced to employ a former nemesis, Jean-Paul Valley, also known as, to take up the Detective mantle while he (Wayne) heals.
The new batman is more brooding (if that 's possible), more ruthless and definitely more powerful. If I'm not mistaken, when this story arc was first run, this was one of the few comics to actually show red blood on it's pages (seems quaint now, huh?)
I think, in fitting with the current darker trend of the last two films, Bane and Jean-Paul Valley would be excellent additions to the franchise.
What's your take? Who would you like to see Gotham's Greatest hero go up against?
