Stokes Caribbean duo Down Sad Liverpool Liverpools form is a real head scratcher

Just when you thought it was safe to start supporting Liverpool again, up pop Stoke to drag the fans hopes back down beneath the surface.. It's like Jaws, just without the teeth, much like the players' performances.

Caribbean duo Ricardo Fuller and Kenwyne Jones scored the goals for Stoke City as they cut down struggling giants Liverpool in the English Premiership yesterday.

Following a goalless first half at the Britannia Stadium, the Caribbean duo pumped in second half goals to fire Stoke to their second straight win, while ending Liverpool's six-match unbeaten run.

For Fuller, it was his second goal in five days after he scored against Birmingham at mid-week and his performance attracted the praise of manager Tony Pulis.

"Ric scored a fantastic goal in mid-week but I bet you if you were to ask him which he cherished the most it would be the one he scored against Liverpool even if it was a scrappy goal," Pulis said. "That's because this win means so much to us all."

The 31-year-old forward put the hosts ahead in the 56th minute when he scrambled a rebound past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

A trademark Rory Delap long throw-in resulted in a scramble inside the box and Matthew Etherington's subsequent shot ricocheted off Liverpool defender Paul Konchesky to Fuller whose first shot was blocked, before he found the target with his second attempt.

Jones' left-footed drive then missed its target as Stoke squandered the chance to double their lead and Liverpool then missed twice in succession as Maxi Rodríguez and Martin Skrtel muffed opportunities.

They were made to pay in the dying stages of the game when Steven Gerrard surrendered possession to Jones and he nimbly beat Reina to polish off a resounding Stoke win.

How the mighty have fallen!
