These was the reason the whole Philippine nation stops whenever Manny Pacquaio fight. Filipinos are setting aside everything, streets are empty, crime rates dip to zero, and insurgency stops just to rally behind their boxing idol Manny Pacquiao.

Today Manny Pacquiao is set to face off with Mexican-American boxer Antonio Margarito in Texas on Saturday night (Sunday morning Philippine time). The Filipino boxer nicknamed “Pacman" who was also elected last May as a a Congressman on Sarangani province, is gunning for his eighth world title and his 12th consecutive win. Pacquiao, dubbed as the world’s number one pound-for-pound boxer, will battle it out with Margarito on Sunday at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the World Boxing Council’s super welterweight title, if he wins it would be written in boxing history books as the first boxer ever to win 8th division title.

Philippine soldiers and insurgent rebels drop their guns

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokeperson admitted that both government troops and rebels usually drop their guns on days of Pacquiao fights. “We don’t declare a ceasefire, but usually, that’s what happens when Pacquiao fight." he told GMANews. He added that a Pacquiao fight is a rare moment when Filipinos unite regardless of ideology.

Zero crimes when Pacman fights

Philippine Police observed in all Manny Pacquaio previous fights, that crime incidents significantly dip in many areas. No traffic and streets are almost empty. Some areas even reportedly register "zero crime rates" during the fight itself, as criminal elements presumably stay put to watch the fight on television.

Watching the fight live

Major cities in metro manila, like sports gymnasiums, restaurants sets up large screens in to accomdate huge crowds that watch the fight live.

An estimated 10 million overseas Filipinos spread across all 24 time zones of the world, are planning ahead where to watch Pacquiao fight live.
