The 16th Asian Gmaes have been officially opened on Friday by the host country,China in a splendid and "breakthrough" ceremony which is not going to be soon forgotten. Guangzhou which is China's third-biggest city, had the honour of hosting the ceremon.
The ceremony opened with a boy standing on what appears to be a leaf-like carriage lit in green, which floats on top of a fountain. He poured water from a bottle, setting off giant fountains that sprayed in arcs across the stage.Performers on jet skis zoomed into the stadium and performed tricks.
Another high point was when 180 performers presented a four-dimensional show on the huge sail-shaped screens, with 1320 operators on the ground moving them into various patterns by pulling the strings.
Majority residents of this wealthy city of 10 million watched it on TV and few got the chance to watch it live in the stadium by winning a lottery ticket.Tickets to the ceremony went for as much as $1,025.More than 10,000 athletes will be competing in 42 sports at the Games, the biggest Asiad ever, which end on November 27.42 competitions will be hold during 16 days of the 16the Asian Games, among which there are 28 Olympic sports and 14 non-Olympic sports.
