A total of RM123 million sought by the state government for the maintenance of the rivers in this state under the 10th Malaysia Plan (RMK-10).
Chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Development, Datuk Mohamad Hidhir Abu Hasan said, that provision is a step to ensure that the rivers in this state to serve as a contributor to drinking water and agricultural irrigation.
According to him, the three rivers is the source of drinking water should be maintained with the perfect dry river, Sungai Melaka and Sungai Linggi.
He said eight more rivers for irrigation is also River Mermaid, Shrimp, Air Salak, Ayer Hitam, Simpang Ampat, Lendu, snails and Rembau.
''The state government has implemented various programs to ensure that water resources are always in good condition to ensure that rivers are kept clean and can be used, "he said.
He was speaking at the opening of the Legislative Assembly (DUN) Third (Budget) in the Dewan Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, here today.
He answered questions Datuk Ab. Ab Rahman. Karim (BN-Pantai Kundor) on measures taken to ensure that the rivers have continued to serve as a contributor to drinking water and agricultural irrigation.
Elaborating Hidhir Mohamad, said the step taken was the establishment of the State Water Resources Council, One State One River Program, to promote Water Harvesting System and various other awareness programs.
Program''which was organized for the purpose of ensuring clean rivers, life and energy to achieve the water quality at a good level, "he said.
More important, he said, is to free the river from the problems of pollution, litter and sediment that can contribute to flooding problems.
