Barangay & SK Elections

Many were dismayed on the conduct of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections held yesterday, October 25.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC ) yesterday cancelled the barangay and elections in 1,732 out of 42,025 barangays due to violence, late delivery of election paraphernalia and the aftermath of typhoon Juan.

President Aquino expressed his dissatisfaction with the preparations of the COMELEC, and would like an inquiry into the delivery of ballots that mainly caused the postponement of the elections in some areas.

Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) chairperson Ambassador Henrietta de Villa would formally ask the COMELEC to make its own investigation into delay in the distribution of election paraphernalia in yesterday’s polls.

Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga, Chairman of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms lambasted the COMELEC for its mishandling of the polls. The Committe would conduct an assessment of the elections.
