On Thursday evening, October 14, British actor Simon MacCorkindale died as his wife, Susan George, held him in her arms at a London clinic. MacCorkindale was 58; the cause of death was cancer.

The son of a Royal Air Force office, Simon was born in Cambridge on February 12, 1952. Unable to follow in his father’s footsteps, Simon turned to acting. Simon first appeared on the screen in 1973 as Lieutenant Carter in the television mini-series “Hawkeye, the Pathfinder”. He went on to appear in some 60 television shows and films; among them “I, Claudius”, “Jesus of Nazareth”, “Death on the Nile”, “The Riddle of the Sands”, “The Dukes of Hazzard” as Gaylord Duke, “Fantasy Island”, “Hart to Hart”, “Dynasty”, Dr. Jonathan Chase on “Manimal”, “Falcon Crest”, “Counterstrike” as Peter Sinclair, “The Way to Dusty Death”, “Le Femme Nikita”, “Nightman”, “Earth Final Conflit” and “New Tricks” as Sir David Bryant in his last television appearance.

MacCorkindale was described as a courageous fighter and full of energy until the end.
