ONE dreaded naxal along with his female companion were shot dead in police encounter in police encounter occurred near Bogda Puliya, Jamul in the early hour on Friday. Another male naxal accomplice managed to flee the spot during the encounter. The naxal had arrived in Bhilai in connection with an ammunition deal and working out some intelligence inputs the police spotted the group that followed police naxal encounter.

According to information at around 11 pm on Thursday, police teams swung into action after being tipped off about the presence of outlaws in Ghasidas Nagar, Jamul area and succeeded spotted three suspects including a woman near Bogda Puliya, Jamul at around 2:30 am on Friday. On spotting the suspects the police warned them to surrender but it followed with gun shots from the suspect trio leading to gun battle between police and suspects. The police teams took positions and retaliated covering the suspects but one wearing a green shirt and a cap managed to flee the scene while police recovered two bodies including that of a female with bullet injuries at the spot.

The bodies recovered from the spot identified as one of dreaded naxals Nagesh Joga (33), Divisional Commander, North Bastar Range and his female accomplice Pramila (22). Nagesh Joga had sustained three bullet wounds on below chest, stomach and near abdomen while there five gun shot wounds on the body of Pramila including the exit wounds. The body of Pramila was laying near the road leading to the village Dhour of Jamul while Nagesh’s body was laying ahead at the distance of 623 feet inside the bushes. Pramila was clad in orange Saree and sky-blue blouse and Nagesh was wearing brown pants and baniyan and black and white checkered shirts.

The bag said to be belonging to Nagesh, laying near the body of Pramila was consisted one 9 mm Pistol, a walky-talky cash Rs 49,000, a toothpaste, soaps, one mixture packet, a few bananas in a polythene, one pocket diary and clothes included one ‘Lungi’, under garments and also consisting a water bottle. The bag laying with Pramila’s body consisted one 32 bore pistol, one walky-talky, a saree and ladies undergarments.

According to sources Manish Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) led the police firing team comprising senior police officials and personnel. About 14 rounds were fired during the gun battle and the police recovered 8 empty cartridges from the spot. The pistols recovered from the belongings of outlaws were cocked. Manish Sharma ASP (Rural) and M L Kotwani, ASP (City) change the pistol mode and confiscated one cartridge each from chambers and magazine of both pistols. The inquest of the bodies was prepared in presence of SDM A K Bajpeyee and Tahasildar Panchbhai. Bhajan Singh Nirankari, MLA, Vaishali Nagar, Bhilai also reached the spot and took details of the police naxal encounter. Among the police officials and personnel, UBS Chauhan, CSP, Chhaoni Police Zone, Bhilai and R P Sharma, SHO, Jamul Police Station were also present on the spot. The news of police encounter with Maoists spread like wild fire and a crowd of inquisitive residents and villagers crowded at spot.

Unfolding of ‘Police- Naxal Encounter’

* At 11 pm on Thursday police were tipped off.

* At 2:30 am on Friday police spotted suspects near Bogda Puliya, Jamul.

* The gun-battle lasted for five minutes killing two persons suspected to be Maoists.

* The man identified as Nagesh Joga was Divisional Commander, North Bastar was involved in many Naxal attacks including the attack on the Minister for Forest, Vikram Usendi, at Antagarh-Koylibeda road in 2007.

* The woman was identified as Pramila, who said to have always accompanied Nagesh Joga.

* The unidentified naxal fled the spot wearing green shirt and a camp, taking advantage of darkness.
