It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a UFO?

Many eyewitnesses swore they saw a UFO flying over Manhattan, New York Wednesday afternoon as some Twitter blog posts linked the sighting to a book published by a retired US Air Force officer Stanley A. Fulham. In his book ‘Challenges of Change’ which said that October 13, the very day the sighting happened, people would witness ‘a massive UFO display over the world's principal cities.

The FAA was unable to find anything abnormal on their radar, downplaying the UFO scare in the Chelsea district of Manhattan. The mysterious shiny object floating high over Manhattan’s West Side set off a flurry of reports and wild speculations that a UFO was flying over the city.

A Daily News reporter could see a tiny, silver dot floating approximately 5,000 feet above 23th St. and Eighth Ave., where dozens of people gathered late in the afternoon to catch a glimpse.

"It's been hovering there for a while. I'm just kind of baffled," said Joseph Torres, 49, of Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, who spotted the object after leaving a movie.

"How can it be ordinary? There is something going on."

Despite clear skies, it was not easy to make out the tiny object shimmering overhead. Was this a staged publicity stunt? Because just after the first sightings is when the messages appeared on Twitter announcing the publication of the Air Force officer’s book.
