Monday marks the Columbus Day, which is a public holiday. On the Columbus Day in New York, government offices, post offices-except express mail and kiosks, banks, parking lots, sanitations and schools will remain closed. However, the New York Stock Exchange will remain open on the Columbus Day while subways and buses in New York City will operate on a weekday schedule. The schedule and observance of the Columbus Day Holiday differs from state to state.

It is to be noted that the Columbus Day holiday has always been a contentious issue. The Columbus Day holiday observance has always been un-uniformed throughout the country. It should be noted that the Columbus Day holiday in South Dakota is marked as "Native American Day". On the other hand in Denver, Colorado's yearly Columbus Day procession is encountered by demonstrators condemning the mass killing of native population.

Several Italian-American groups of people, however, ferociously protect the Columbus Day. They are set to struggle for the preservation of the country's influential sign of the huge assistance consecutive effects of Italian settlers have contributed to the development of America.

A more positive approach to commemorate the Columbus Day holiday is need of the time. There is a dire need for a National Holiday for Native Americans in order to minimize the controversies regarding the Columbus Day holiday.
