A 120 year grand old lady's Haj dream comes true

A grand old lady who is 120 years old and whose passport shows her age as August 14 1890 prepares to travel to Makkah for Haj pilgrimage in November. Her name is Munni Begum her husband who was a farm worker died 35 years ago. She has 4 sons and 4 daughters and currently heads a family of 150 persons.

The lady filed her papers on Saturday in Jaipur after the Central Haj committee approved her request under a special quota. She would be the oldest woman from the country to undertake the journey. According to reports, “Allah has fulfilled my desire of going to Haj, now I would be able to die peacefully.” Munni says with tears in her eyes. Her grandson and his wife will accompany her.

According to the report Habib Miyan also from Jaipur undertook the pilgrimage to Haj when he was 138 years old and he holds the record for the oldest Haj pilgrim to have undertook the journey. He was a pensioner who worked as a clarinet player in a band that played for the Maharajah of Jaipur.
