Seven elephants which includes three calves being killed when an goods train from Siliguri knocked down the elephants group near the Moraghat railway crossing at Binnaguri,which is in West Bengal on Wednesday night.
Five elephants died instantly while two others died on Thursday morning.In the group of seven dead elephants, three were babies and three females.
The Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh told that he is going to meet the Railway board to appropraite steps to curb the matter.The accident occured in the Jalpaiguri region.According to the Minister Jairam Ramesh told that he already wrote several times about the matter to Mamata Banerjee ,the Railway Minister but till now no measures taken which lead to about 150 elephants dead from 1857 on railway track.
