GRAPEVINE - The 24th Annual GrapeFest kicks off this week starting September 16 - 19, which is the largest wine festival in the Southwestern United States.
New this year at GrapeFest will be a "Super Wine Experience." Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite team, predicting who will play during North Texas' Super Bowl XLV. Prizes will also be rewarded. The theme this year for GrapeFest is: Super Times. Super Wines.
“We understand that Super Bowl XLV is still six months out, but we want to be careful not to link GrapeFest with any ‘official’ Super Bowl event,” said Paul W. McCallum, executive director of Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau.
In addition, the GrapeFest feature a painting on which the limited edition collectible GrapeFest posters are based. The painting includes: images of Red Wine versus White Wine; bottle labels that look like football jerseys; vintage years that look like player numbers; wine glasses as captains; a vineyard that looks like the lines on a typical football field.
The theme is Super Bowl related, but it not the GrapeFest kick off event for Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
Both GrapeFest and the Super Bowl are hugely popular annual events. Last year more than 250,000 people attended GrapeFest in Grapevine, TX, making it one of the best-attended family festivals in Texas. Cowboys Stadium in Arlington will be able to accommodate about 100,000 Super Bowl spectators, according to news reports.
