BALANBAL – More Ethiopian troops with armed heavy weapons have made new military bases at Balanbal district of Galgudud region, where there had been a base for some Ethiopian troops earlier in central Somalia, witnesses said on Saturday.

Residents of Balanbal district confirmed the arrival of the Ethiopian troops in the district to the journalists as more of the locals did not report any interventions made by the troops.

It is unclear the grounds of the Ethiopian troops’ arrival in the district so far.

Residents said that the Ethiopian troops did yet talk to the people of the district pointing out that they made their new military bases at the west and south of the Balanbal town.

There were no problems or intimidations committing the Ethiopian troops to the people of the town and it is unknown whether they would reach further to the other districts of Galgudud region in central Somalia or not. It is not the first time that Ethiopian troops cross border and enter parts of Somalia.
