My city has been named as one of those that will be hard it by the proposed job cuts in public sector work.
Towns such as Hull and Grimsby, near the River Humber, have suffered many problems over the years. Both of these places have never fully recovered from the loss of their fishing industry some years ago. Unemployment if rife, many shops are closing down or already closed and boarded up, poverty and drugs are also a problem.
These two survive, just, because the NHS, local government and council employ many of the local people. Once these jobs are cut there will be nowhere for such people to go. They may of course be offered the chance to up sticks and more town but for most this will not be a viable option. Anyway iif many did it would leave such cities and towns as veritable ghost towns.
With news reports that benefits are set to be slashed further it is a worrying time for those of us of an age to work. There will be less employment opportunities but less help if you are unlucky enough to become unemployed.
I can only wonder where it will all end and how I will be affected personally.
