Vera Zvonareva of Russia has reached her first semifinal at the U.S. Open 2010 by beating Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, 6-3, 7-5.
The match between Vera Zvonareva and Kanepi took place in the Arthur Ashe Stadium and the weather was such that 25 miles per hour winds were blowing, making the tennis challenge tougher for both the players.
Vera Zvonareva was the no. 7 seed and will be playing the winner of Wednesday night's quarter final match that will be played between Caroline Wozniacki and Dominika Cibulkova.
Today, Vera Zvonareva played a very low risk game that ended up getting her a winning spot for semifinals.
The wind continuously hindered Vera Zvonareva and her opponent's service tosses. Vera Zvonareva was able to figure it out sooner than Kanepi, who spent the entire first half trying to work around it.
According to Vera Zvonareva, the most important factor that works in such a match is the right balance of being aggressive and being patient.
