An unbelievable happy ending story is being read all around the globe - unfortunately it is probably not true. Those puppies that were filmed as they were being thrown alive into a river in Bosnia are safe; or so the story goes. Reason says the elderly woman who saved them would have drowned if she even tried.

The mainstream media has plenty of experience with stories like this, but that doesn’t stop them from promoting those. For the locals in the city of Bugojno it was no big deal. The rescuer just wanted to save the teen from further anguish.

The puppies' “savior,” Ruza Pavlovic, was photographed with are different colors than those the girl, filmed by her elder brother, was seen throwing in the Vrbas River.
Apparently Pavlovic is believed to be the next door neighbor of the accused girl’s family.

“The girl and her family have been under a lot of pressure because of the so many media reports. Bugojno is a small city, we all know who the girl is. She can hardly bear to live with the reactions and here everyone believes that Pavlovic made this only to try to help the girl and her family,” a local who requested to stay anonymous told Allvoices.

In the video, which has been taken off from YouTube, the teenage girl was shown throwing the puppies in the river, one by one. During the video, the teen laughed as she said “Does it swim?”

After the media exposure of the case, she and her family were questioned by local police. According to the local source, the girl went back to school and her everyday activities, but is under medical treatment.

“She vomits every time she sees the reports on the TV,” a source close to the family stated.

While her act caused a mass outrage on the Internet, since the Bugojno’s streets are full of strays, the local people didn’t get that upset.

Indeed, though the Bosnian law predicts a fine for killing or torturing animals, in range from 15 to 5000 Euros, no one has ever paid a penny for such acts.

I knew it was too good to be true. With the force that girls was throwing those young puppies, I found it hard to believe they all survived and was magically rescued by an elderly woman.

I agree. Howeve, even if they WERE rescued, it doesn't reduce the severity of that teens evil.

I remember there was a white puppy thrown also. where is that? that puppy is not there. and also, the puppies thrown were just newborn, those puppies in the picture look like they're already a few weeks old. if those were really the puppies, then good that they were rescued.

i hope they were really saved, but who knows what really happened there. i think the girl should be put into a mental institution. obviously, she has some kind of mental disorder, and she should be cured before she continue havoc in society, killing others, whether animals, babies, kids, and graduate to adults like herself to become some kind of wanted serial killer. she might also end up working for the govt as a hitman, killing others for them.

a history of cruelty to animals is often found in the backgrounds of sociopaths (ted bundy).

Too bad the Bosnian culture has a "local custome" of promoting this kind of sociopathic beginnings.

I also read many psychologists agree on that. Unfortunately, in the Balkans there are still some people that don't have any empathy for animals. On the other hand, killing is almost usual way of getting rid of unwanted puppies and cats. But regardless of cultural and traditional aspects, I still think that having fun by doing something like this is very pathological.

What was the girl's punishment? A mere fine?

A careful look at stills from the original videoclip will show the puppies in question to be black with white underbellies; while the rescued puppies look slightly different – black with brown underbellies.

Still, what are the chances – if the old woman is telling the truth of course – that more than one litter of exactly five puppies could be “struggling to stay afloat” in a Bosnian river so soon after the posting of the infamous video? Could this, perhaps, be a new fad for teens in Bosnia, throwing puppies into rivers by the litter?

I do not think this terrible example should be used to generalize the idea of the Bosnian teens. Children can be mean anywhere, not only in Bosnia...
Reply By angelakimbrolivecom angelakimbrolivecom | over 2 years ago
Its the Bosnians who generaized the self-admitted "local custom". Yes teens can be cruel anywhere, but the Bosnian culture has just revealed a very sick part of themselves.

When people have been exposed to brutality themselves, tossing a newborn stray pup into the river is peanuts in comparison. Le's give the kid a break and hope she will be kinder next time she's around puppies.

The kid got a break wen she didn't get shot.

One crime should not be used as an excuse for another one. And if you meant on war when mentioning brutality, this girl was born years after the Balkans' conflict.

No generalizations here, just one young girl who has learned an important lesson - at the expense of those poor puppies.

And how did this woman fish the puppies out of the river?

How about rescuing dogs for delicacy.

There are some countries even my own in the Philippines, still people are killing dogs as a delicacy despite of an existing laws for mistreatment on animals or cruelty.

If it weren't for news like these, people who kill or eat dogs would think what they are doing is right because no one is giving it a big deal. Even if the law states that animal cruelty could mean having to pay a fine, the people will not feel the gravity of the case unless the media displays similar examples. The media plays an important role in reformation so as long as news about animal cruelty stays on the airwaves, apathetic people will realize that animal cruelty is being denounced by the entire society (and as part of that society, they are encouraged and oftentimes, expected, to denounce it as well). As for rescuing dogs from becoming delicacy, that will be resolved soon (one step at a time, one situation at a time) so let's just hope the media in the Philippines covers stories like this frequently.

The media?

You need to thank the Internet.

If this video was made in 1980, and sent to every television station in the US and Europe, it would have been a forgotten event.

When I was in college in 1993 as an electrical engineering student in my senior year, I was in a party in which a friend stated that the Internet would obliterate every culture. I was appalled at the idea, but then he pointed out if we all had the same culture there is little to fight over.

12 years later, I thought he was wrong. We're over in Iraq supposedly looking for weapons of mass destruction that don't exist, and in Afghanistan looking for a binLaden while kissing the ass of his family back in Saudi Arabia.

Maybe my friend wasn't wrong after all? Maybe I just didn't give it enough time for it to happen.

Hopefully the obliteration of cultures by assimilation will result in the best of all cultures, not the worst. Time will tell though.

Words cannot explain how disappointed I am that a person like her exists. If she was my child, I would be devastated. For her to ENJOY throwing those puppies in a river, and video taping it, there is something seriously wrong with her. She needs help. People who kill animals, tend to grow up harming humans. Think about that!

P.s: The puppies look completely different to the ones the old lady is holding. Does she think we are stupid?

If she were my kid I would turn her in to the law and ask for full punishments.

I come from the same country as this little girl. You have to understand that this is a local custom in our country.People throw the first puppies and little cats in water. Its just a local custom.I havent done it but its something that happens.
People eat dogs in China and nobody says anything about it.Because China is too strong country and they dont wanna listen what people outside say about such things.
Sorry but that is the cruel reallity...
Reply By angelakimbrolivecom angelakimbrolivecom | over 2 years ago
A lot of people are protesting what happens in China. Where have you been? People protest what happens in US, Norway, Japan, Iceland, China, Romania,Greece... I can't list them all. Each country hs its sickos and its people trying to fight the sickness. Problem with some countries is there are more sociopaths in some than others. Unfortunately, Bosnia has very little people worth a damn.

Yes, Vlado - what you say is true: it is an usual way of getting rid of newborn cats or puppies in the Balkans. I think the animal activists who are interested in the region might even be aware of that. BUT what makes the act of a girl in question different is the fact that she was finding joy and fun in doing such thing. And that is not a custom, not even in the Balkans!

Vjerovatno i sama znas da se prvi kucici i macici u vodu bacaju. To je kod nas obicaj oduvijek.Bar ovdje u Bosni.A sto se tice toga sto se na taj nacin zabavljala to ne sporim da je pogresno.
