4 September 2010 – Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia – When buying a laptop most of us consider the price first before the warranty. Living in Asia, the place where the latest electronics seems to be cheaper than anywhere else, price is even a more important factor. But how is the after-service?
In most Asian electronics shops one can bargain, and no one is shy of doing so, this is a big difference with the western nations.
In this I have to praise the company Asus for giving an excellent service.
My laptop an EeePC (branded by Asus) was bought nearly 12 months ago in Vietnam and started to develop some what seemed software problems, slow start up, key board hanging, programs hanging, letters appearing where the keys were not touched and various other symptoms. At first I assumed a virus, and ran all the virus and malware programs I could find.
Time to take it to the PC doctor in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia where I am residing. My brand new 1 terra byte hard drive backed-up all the data, and it was ready to go to the Asus service center in KL.
As with most electronics service centers, I did not look forward to the unfriendly service staff, and their stories, and the bad news of sending it to Taiwanistan or some other far away place for an initial test and repair job.
But not at Asus, the staff greeted me friendly, listened to my story within minutes after me entering the center, checked if they had stock, exchanged my keyboard and within 5 minutes I was on my way again.
They never even asked me for a purchase receipt or any form of identification or started any other long bureaucratic procedures. They just got on with it.
In short, they dealt with my problem, fast, correct and without any costs. Thanks to them I was publishing new articles within minutes.
Asus chapeaux, job well done.
