El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California is in the middle of the Silicon Valley. Juju Chang reports on ABC's "Good Morning, America" show on Thursday, 8.26.10 that the hospital robots deliver medications, specimens and supplies. Biometric check-in of your hand at the door entrance logs you in and tracks your progress. Care rooms have advanced beds that have an electronic display board at the foot with 22 different languages programmed into it. It asks standard questions in the patient's language when the doctor presses buttons that translate what he wants to know. The surgical suite has vascular advanced equipment. "Neurosurgeons can find out almost instantaneously" if their operation is a success. Dual huge visual screens show the operation above the room. Less time under anesthesia. Doctor says that having this equipment is just incredible.

From "Bloomberg Business Report," dated 6.1.10, you can read the original report about this hospital's robots and other robot technology being produced as well as the downside about jobs being lost. It would be interesting to see if those workers could retrain for the high-tech robot industry jobs. Their experience would be valuable.
