Kumasi, Aug 25, GNA - A 30-year old cellphone recharge card vendor, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court for stealing 26 bags of onions and four bags of potatoes, all valued at GH¢1,520.00. Yahaya Amadu denied the offence. Police Chief Inspector Rejoice Sumatu told the Court presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Afua Pokuaa, is a trader and owns a store at the Kumasi 93Race Course". She had engaged the convict as caretaker of the said store.

On August 8, the lady kept 300 bags of onions and 50 bags of potatoes in the store. Amadu stole 26 bags of the onions and four bags of the potatoes. Pokuaa later detected the theft and made a report to the Suame police, leading to the arrest of Amadu.

The prosecution said the convict in his caution statement to the police confessed to the crime.
