Glass Pavilion House

The superb masterpiece by a Los Angeles-based architect Steve Hermann is currently the centre of attention for the whole world.

He finished his latest project in Montecito,Calif , about four months ago. The Glass Pavilion home measures about three-and-a-half acres and it took six years to complete. The home is an open white stunner, with rooms that feature unrestricted views of the oak and fern Montecito landscape.

"Here I have complete privacy," Mr. Herman says.

"It allows you to be one with nature inside the house."

The space covers an extended area of 13,875-square-foot which provided him with enough area to create a luxurious home featuring walls of glass. It consists of five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a kitchen with a wine room and an art gallery among which art gallery is very dear to Hermann as it contains his vintage car collection.

The architect not only designed his own house but also some of the home's furniture e-g benches and sofas.

He originally built it for himself but now his plans changed and now the Glass Pavilion home is for sale.

I don't get it. Privacy means individual private area. If you have other members of your family, then what happens? Or even when you have your guests? Do you put some screen or slides such as traditional Japanese style?

Just don't throw stones in the glass house and all will be well.

As valid an accomplishment as this project is for an Architect or Client, one must temper the urge to convey superlatives that are so contrary to the reality of a profession where 20% unemployment and no visible change in sight is the norm.

Spectacular, it is an Architect's dream, executed within tumultuous economic and environmental context.
