Planted road side bomb killed one soldier from Puntland forces and injured two yesterday. The forces were in patrol near Galgala where the insurgency lead by Sh Attam is assumed to be stationed.
Witnesses informed VOA that the vehicle that was carrying the soldiers was targeted with roadside bomb.
The insurgency lead by Mohamed Saeed Attam is opposed to the regional government of Puntland and wants to replace it with Islamic government. But many suspect that the conflict has much to do with resource competition in the region. Galgala and its surroundings including the areas south of Laasqoray is said to be rich in minerals and is inhabited by the Warsangele clan who suspect that Puntland wants to exploit their land without the consent of the locals.
