Hilde Janssen journalist and photographer in January Banning held a photo exhibition "Jugun Ianfu", the women used as sex slaves Nusantara which Japanese soldiers during World War II.

"Me and Banning in 2007 decided to record the personal experiences of women entertainers in Indonesia through portraits, drawings, and writings to break the silence of the victims," said Janssen told reporters in Jakarta, Thursday (08/12/2010).

Events Ianfu Jugun photo exhibition held in the Kuningan area office of the Erasmus Huis, Jakarta, featuring 18 photographs of former Jugun ianfu tells the story of the past who accompanied them during the taboo that surrounds it.
An estimated 50 000 and 200 000 Jugun ianfu including 5000 and 20,000 women in Indonesia have been forced into military brothels.

Erasmus Huis, taken from the name of the great scholars of the 16th century, is a building owned by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jakarta. Dutch interest in this exhibition embody as they were also victims of Japanese atrocities, after years became so arrogant occupiers in the archipelago.

Furthermore, these military brothels be an effective way to boost troop morale, maintain law and order, and avoid rape and venereal disease.

"An estimated 50 000 and 200 000 Jugun ianfu including 5000 and 20,000 women in Indonesia have been forced into military brothels," said Janssen.

According to Janssen, for women in Indonesia, became Jugun ianfu is a nightmare. "Many of Jugun ianfu which is still under age, some new age of 11, 12, or 13 years," said Janssen.

Janssen revealed, finding the former Jugun ianfu in Indonesia is not easy. "We have been exploring the island of Java, Maluku, East Kalimantan, North Sumatra and West Timor as well as photographing and interviewing a total of about 50 women," said Janssen.

Janssen also revealed, the former Jugun ianfu need not only an apology, but also financial compensation that has been promised for years by advocacy groups.

"From all this they (Jugun ianfu) wash the strength to overcome their embarrassment and raised his face to the world," said Janssen.
